Program Information - U5 and U7

Under 5 & 7 Program Information

Program Structure
The goal for the summer is to develop basic movement skills like running, jumping, landing, kicking, throwing, and catching in a fun setting built around informal play and positive reinforcement. Practices will consist of four stations (roughly 7-10 minutes each) followed by a game to wrap up the session. The four main categories for development are General Movement, Coordination, Technique and Small Sided Games.

  • Soccer technique is focused on core skills such as receiving, passing and controlling the ball.
  • General Movement works on the overall agility, balance, and coordination of the player. This looks like focusing on speed, jumping, coordinating movements with both their body and the ball as well as running.
  • Coordination involves drills pertaining to the players' movements with and without the ball. Ultimately working towards getting lots of touches on the ball, using the whole foot and controlling the ball from the air.
  • Small-Sided Games is the fun aspect that will challenge players to use the skills learned in Technique, General Movement and Coordination in game-like situations.
The mini program will be held at the Canada Games Field at Three Oaks Senior High School this year (10 Kenmore Ave, Summerside, PEI). Parking is available in the school parking lot.

Equipment
All players need to be equipped with soccer cleatsshin guards, water bottles and, where applicable, hair tied back using headbands or ponytails. Also, jewelry is not permitted while playing. For the Under 5 age group, cleats are not a requirement but may prevent injury should the soccer field be in wet condition. Players need to arrive at the field dressed and ready.

Weather Cancellations
Soccer is generally played rain or shine. However, at this age level, the safety of these young players will be first and foremost. In situations where the weather is questionable, it will be up to the Mini Program Director to make the final decision. This will be done by way of an update on our website, as well as by way of email to all those signed up on our email list. Notice will be posted by 4:00 pm on the day in question.
